Since March 2020 when Kenya confirmed its first Covid-19 case and a raft of measure instituted to curb the spread of the virus, a sense of devastation hit every single household from social and economic fronts. All indications are that the effect of the disruptions and shocks that came with the government actions to secure every single member of the public is likely to be felt in the short and midterm by the entire citizenry with higher indices for families and children who have been rendered vulnerable by other factors.
Since the onset of Covid-19 outbreak in Kenya, SOS Children's Villages Kenya has worked in collaboration with different partners to respond to the pandemic, a keen focus has been on vulnerable families in the seven counties where the organization supports more than 15, 000 beneficiaries under its alternative care and family strengthening programs
Bata Kenya through its "Bata heroes initiative" donated 3,000 pairs of shoes to SOS Children's Villages Kenya. The initiative that was aimed at cushioning the vulnerable members of the community from the devastating effects of the pandemic saw Bata produce and donate facemasks, shoes and protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers through the Bata Children's Program and the Bata Shoe Foundation.

The Managing Director Bata; Ms. Jedida Thotho reaffirm the commitment of Bata Kenya and the global Bata foundation in being responsive to the needs of the society and collaborating with local partners to transform the community.
